Is it possible??? Dana, Lisa (an incredible scrapbooker who is employed by CK magazine) and I, were discussing this a couple days ago. So disappointed in where everything is headed...Simple Scrapbooks Magazine went under a couple years ago, Memory Makers left probably 2 1/2 years ago and now, Scrapbooks Etc. has stopped printing as well. I was hoping it wasn't true...but sure enough, I come home to a "Good Housekeeping" magazine in place of my Scrapbooks Etc. That is my mom's magazine.
Stores are disappearing...online stores are less availavble. You used to be able to find any supply imaginable, and if it wasn't at Michaels or AC Moore, you could find it online. Stampin' Up is still alive and kicking, but they have even upped their MDS, coming out with MDS 2...and adding more fabrics and "home decor" supplies to their catalogs. Of course they still have all the stamping supplies (when was the last time you went to purchase a card at the store....really $6 for a boring, ugly card).
I can't find "crop weekends" offered, too much any more. We still run our "Scrappin' Good Time" weekends and day crops, but they are open to everyone who crafts. Before, there would be a FULL room of just scrapbookers (i love seeing all the different crafters at our weekends now, but we see how much has changed).
I know the economy put everyone in a tailspin....but is digital taking over so much that there is less and less of the "paper" scrapper? Or is it easier for someone to click on the local photo printer and make a photo book?
I LOVE my scrapbooking, when I have the time, of course, which is not a lot lately. But I am on a quest, if not for everyone, for myself...to start making time.
Do you think scrapbooking is a dying craft? Are you worried?
Time to step it up girls...if you are a scrapbooker, let's see if we can get the ball rolling again!
